Season 2 - Episode 1
Innovation for the Blind
Why did Lottoland choose Innovation for the Blind as a project to support.
Innovation for the Blind (previously Institute for the Blind), situated in the care capital of South Africa, Worcester, is a non-profit organisation that has been catering for the all-inclusive, specialised needs of persons with visual impairments since 1881!
Our mission is to empower adults with visual impairments and older persons through training, development and care to experience quality of life and complete citizenship.
At Innovation for the Blind, (IftB) we offer services to more than 350 adults and elderly persons with visual and additional disabilities, which includes 50 persons who are deafblind! Our unique services include residential care and assisted living services, skills development and vocational programmes, therapeutic services and a range of support services such as life skills and orientation and mobility. We are privileged to be the only organisation in South Africa that offers this vulnerable group of citizens the full spectrum of care and skills development services they require to lead a fulfilling life.
At Innovation for the Blind our vision is to measurably improve quality of life for the visually impaired, and we believe the only way to achieve this is to ensure that persons with visual impairments are treated with dignity. As an organisation we have a responsibility to create greater awareness so that persons with visual impairments can receive recognition for their amazing abilities. And through this process create opportunities for persons with disabilities to achieve their potential. Offering services to persons with disabilities is not the same as working with them to create a better future.
Being able to work offers us a purpose and also forms a big part of our identity. It is believed that 97% of persons who are visually impaired are unemployed, that is why skills development programmes are so important to us. This is not a burden we bear, but a privilege we carry. However, we cannot carry it alone, and therefore we offer a special thanks to our friends, donors, and partners for their loyal contributions and indispensable involvement over the years.
Become a donor and be the light in someone's darkness. All donations go towards improving the lives of persons with visual impairments.

Innovation for the Blind Wishlist
Lottoland receives a “wishlist” from each organisation that we support. The need in all the projects we get involved in is so big and our contribution towards these projects are only a drop in the ocean. We’ve asked these organisations to share their wishlists with you.
